Silver Reef Ghost Town

Silver Reef Ghost Town

A former mining town in Utah, the Silver Reef Ghost Town is a historic site that’s rather enjoyable to explore.

In fact, of the many ghost towns, this one is the most popular.

Of note, the town was first settled in 1886 with the discovery of a valuable silver vein running through indigenous geology.

With the hopes of striking paydirt, miners quickly settled Silver Reef Ghost Town.

However, with the decline in the value of silver in 1884, shortly after settlement, miners began to leave town.

The official abandonment of Silver Reef Ghost Town occurred in 1891.

Today, visitors to Utah can explore the abandoned ghost town through self-guided tours.

Surrounded by an astounding geological backdrop, you can meander the town’s abandoned bank, traverse an interpretive trail, and even partake in living history shows.

Furthermore, many of the abandoned buildings can be toured during “museum” hours, however, you can explore the grounds anytime you’d like.

A very cool thing to do when in town, Silver Reef Ghost Town is highly recommended.
